Vintage deals Shelton’s Art Pottery Ruffled Rim Candy Bowl Seagrove North Carolina Signed 1997

North Carolina pottery fans will fancy this frilly candy bowl by Shelton's Pottery. The ruffle rimmed bowl has a glossy glaze inside and out, except for the base. In shades of winter white, pale gray and cranberry red, it has a wonderful floral form with subtle texture and color variations. Perfect for any room deals needing a hand made accent with a little flare for hospitality – classic, folk, cottage, farmhouse. Because of its very decorative rim, the bowl seems intended for candy, small fruit or nuts, but with it's organic form it could shine as a small centerpiece bowl all on its own.

Shelton's Pottery was located along Cagle Road in Seagrove. It was operating at least as early as 1993 by Mitchell and Sherri Shelton who were working ‘8th and 9th generation potters creating functional and decorative pieces.' From an online search, it is not clear whether it still remains an active artisan pottery today. The underside of the bowl is signed “Shelton 97 TS”. It was likely purchased during a visit to the pottery.

The bowl is approximately 2.5 inches tall and 6 5/8 inches at its widest and 3 1/4 inches at its base. It weighs 12.2 ounces. It has a wonderful handmade character including variations in the clay and the glazing. It is in an excellent vintage condition without chips, cracks or repairs. There is a shallow incised line along the base of the bowl which seems to be original to its creation; it is not a crack. Please examine the photos in making your decision.
