By Courtney Peterson, this Bumble bee brooch is the largest size she created, measuring 3 1/4" wide and 2 1/8" high.
It can be worn as a brooch or as a pendant, and has a c clasp with safety.
Crafted in both sterling silver and brass, it is signed on the back of one of the silver wings with her name, the initials SS/B and the partial imprint of sterling.
The wings are lightly engraved, and the body of the bee and its legs have deeper incising. The antennae are silver, the body and legs are brass, with the legs being slightly darker in color than the body.
Condition is good, evidence of wear, some tarnish on silver and small spots on the brass body of the bee. The clasp works well.
Courtney Pearson began her jewelry design workshop in the1960s and continues to create very fine and often unique designs in jewelry.
She is inspired by natural elements, and her designs incorporate birds, insects, fish, flowers, as well as some abstract forms utilizing gems.
Her works are usually a combination of silver and brass or silver and gold plate, with occasional addition of small gems for emphasis.
Dramatic and appealing, this lovely work by Courtney would be a special gift for birthday or upcoming Christmas season.
