Vintage Hand Carved ROSE CAMEO in Sardonyx Shell Brooch Pin Pendant in STERLING Silver Gold Wash, Signed BA

This is such a beautifully carved rose cameo! It is hand carved from Sardonyx shell and identified by its lovely chocolate brown background with all white upper layer. There is no variation of color to the white rose making a lovely contrast with the chocolate background. The mounting is sterling silver and it has a slight gold-wash remaining. The cameo is secure in its mounting and closes with a functioning roll-over safety clasp. Signed on the reverse 925, a star logo, what looks like BA and another unidentifiable mark. Likely made by B.A. Ballou.

This piece is versatile as it can be worn as both a brooch and a pendant. The hidden bail allows it to be worn on a chain if desired. The sterling mounting measures 3/4 inch wide and 15/16 inch long, not including the bail. There is some tarnish on the gold wash. The shell looks very nice with light wear. I see no chips or cracks in it and it's a thick shell cameo. Sardonyx shell grows very slowly and therefore cameos made of it are very collectible deals. In the whitish portion on the back, it looks like maybe some writing and is perhaps the artist's name but I was unable to read it. This unique, hand carved piece is sure to enhance any cameo collection! (Inven#1RDP7/7-22)
