"The Great One"
Hand drawn; micron pens on deals paper
62-hours
I spent over 2 months learning all I could about Roberto, and 62-hours of drawing time completing him. I read hundreds of pages of his biographies and watched hours of his highlights and videos in order gain a deep understanding of the man. This is truly a comprehensive visual-biography of Roberto's life.
Even the most die-hard Clemente-fan will learn something new about him inside this artwork. I learned so many great and interesting facts about him that became part of the artwork. A neat fact was that the Baseball Hall of Fame had Roberto's name spelled incorrectly for years. In the proper Hispanic format his name is "Roberto Clemente Walker".
Some other interesting information was while he was a young ball player in Puerto Rico the Brooklyn Dodgers offered him a contract; he we was the recipient of Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. The most interesting fact that I learned about Roberto was that he was a U.S. Marine, and in 2003 was inducted into the United States Marine Corps Sports Hall. He also won 12 Gold Glove Awards (I drew 12 gloves, each with the year he won. Can you find them all?) Do you see what I see?
Thank you for enjoying my artwork! - Christopher Nix, Artist
FROM THE ARIST: “All of my artwork is 100% hand drawn. It's just me, a piece of paper, and a fist full of pens. It takes approximately 3-months to create the originals; 2-months of learning and researching all I can about the subject, and about one full month of drawing by hand everything that I have learned. I call my artwork a “Visual Biography®”. It is the story and the history of the overall image, told with 100s of images hand drawn inside.” – Chris Nix .com
