Oaxacan Wood Carvings (Alebrijes) are a magnificent expression of Mexican Folk Art. The talented carvers of Oaxaca create, entirely by hand, wonderful sculptures made from copal wood and their ingenious shapes with amazing patterns and colors have captivated collectors world wide.
Alebrijes (Spanish pronunciation: [aleˈβɾixes]) are brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical (fantasy/mythical) creatures. The first alebrijes, along with use of the term, originated with Pedro Linares.
Most Alibrijes are signed on the bottom by the artist. This one is signed in yellow paint but the signature is unrecognizable to me. Please see photo.

This Dragon is from my personal collection. I bought this piece in Nogales, Mexico in the 1990's.
Body is a green/teal color with dots of pink and red. Wings are a red/coral color with dots of blue and yellow. Blue back feet.
Some minor paint loss due to normal wear and tear of an object of this age. See photos.
