Fragments a drop box shrine commemorating those who suffered through natural deals disasters
Fragments, "Out of the ashes they shall rise", a drop box commemorating those who suffered through natural disasters.
This shrine is not only meaningful to me, but to all of those who have been affected by Natural Disasters. This drop box symbolizes the devastating flood (the worst in 500 years) due to Hurricane Harvey in the summer of 2017 in Houston & surrounding areas. I named it "Fragments" because that's all that is left of my neighborhood and many others. Many of our friends and neighbors lost their homes, all of their possessions and ended up being displaced. My artist friends lost a lifetime of work.
The Magic about this disaster was how people came together to assist each other. It was truly amazing to see!
The pictures use are actual photos of our neighborhood.
Created from a vintage tennis racket stretcher deals, ephemera, acrylics, corrugated cardboard, doll house furniture and texture paste.
Provisions for hanging in back.
10" x 12" x 4.5"
I have included a short video about it's creation: https://www.facebook.com/sylvia.larkin.7/videos/1955844894431445/
