I happened upon the deals pattern for a zigzag necklace by Rebecca Peapples many many years ago. I liked it, but felt it was longer than I wanted, and the sharp contrasts in the center stripe didn't suit my tastes at all. It seemed to me that the best thing for it was to abandon the textile patterns that had inspired Ms. Peapples and make the center stripe an ombre blend. In tis form, the necklace traces the neck without hugging it as close as a choker might, with a dip in the center to frame the hollow of the throat.
For this necklace, I chose to lean into the colors of a blazing fire. So the central stripe has an ombre transition from deep crimson red through paler carmine and vermillion, to a brilliant yellow orange like the center of a dandelion. Surrounding that is a stripe of iridescent walnut above and a stripe of yellow gold below, each dotted with antique copper silk. Each serrated point is tipped with an iridescent fringe bead except the center, where I added a crystal so intensely red it can appear black in some lights.
This necklace can be ordered in custom colors; as long as i have the colors in stock, there is no additional fee. The length can also be customized for a larger neck size, for a small fee to cover additional labor.
