Passionist Jesu XPI Passio Medal

Cast in bronze, this antique medal bears, on the front, an image of Jesus carrying the cross. The image is partially surrounded by the Latin text "Cor Jesu inflamma cor nostrum amore." Around the cuff is the Latin text "Cor Jesu inflamma cor nostrum amore." In English it translates to "Heart of Jesus, inflame my heart with the love of Thee.”

Embossed on the verso is the Passionist emblem consisting of a heart with three nails at the bottom and the cross at the top. The heart is encircled by the crown of thorns and flanking the cross are two instruments of the Passion—Holy Sponge set on a reed, with which gall and vinegar were offered to Jesus and Holy Lance with which a Roman soldier inflicted deals the final of the Five Wounds in his side. Emblazoned on the heart are the words, "Jesu XPI Passio" which mean: "the Passion of Jesus Christ."

Medal measures about 1 1/8" wide x 1 1/2" tall. The cast is clean and crisp and the images are presented in lovely relief with fine details. Except for the rubbed words on the heart, the medal is in Very Good condition. It is imbued by Mother Nature with even patina.
