An ORIGINAL expressive portrait of a woman emphasizing loose line, form and color done in black charcoal and multi colors of pastel. First, I sketched her loose and lightly. Then, I added charcoal in varying shades and pressure. I really love that deep, dark, organic richness that comes with using charcoal to create. I added layers and layers of pastel until I get just the "right" combination of expression for her.

Too bad no camera can really reflect the texture of this medium. Regardless, it's a gorgeous medium that really supports my need for expression. I'm also a "messy" charcoal artist. I love the feel of charcoal on my fingers and I don't ever try to keep all the paper clean of my marks and touches. This is just another expression of me making my art.
