deals When I found these bookends I was captivated by their beauty. The sculptor attended to every detail of the bit and bridle, the harness, and, above all, the magnificent horse. It is proud, tireless, with blazing eyes and flowing mane. It is a destrier, a war horse of the finest caliber. It reminded me of equestrian images I had seen in books about ancient history. The last photograph above is one of the most famous equestrian statues in the world, that of Marcus Aurelius, which stands in the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome. It is a copy of the original statue which is safely housed in the Capitoline Museum. Notice the similarities in the aesthetics and to the bit and bridle on my bookends.
Sadly I found no information about the mark. B. M. Pro., therefore, I do not know who made them and cannot accurately date them. I have seen a few other bronze items with the "B. M. Pro." mark and they all had the ( C ) copyright mark followed by the year 1950.
These bookends are cast bronze and hollow but very substantial with thick walls. They probably had felted protectors on the base when they were first purchased.
Measurements as follows:
Height: 5.5 inches
Width.: 3.0 inches
Depth.: 4.5 inches
Weight: 34 ounces combined
They are in excellent condition with a beautiful patina. They are a jewel for your home as they have been for mine.
