TARTAN WARE THREAD Box. deals Made in 1871 for 100th anniversary of the birth of Sir Walter Scott.

A lovely tartan ware thread and sewing box with a portrait of Sir Walter Scott on the lid. It was made in 1871 to commemorate the birth of Scott in 1771. It is an advertising piece for Clark & Co thread manufacturers of Paisley, Scotland. The box is covered in McLean tartan. There are 6 intact wooden spools inside for holding thread and a central container for a thimble which has British sterling hallmarks. The thimble is in good condition deals and measures 16 mm across the opening. The box measures 4 inches across and 2 1/4 inches high.The box is in good condition for its 150 years of age!
