Chinoiserie I - Original handcarved Linocut deals print, limited edition B/W, featuring birds and flowers
"Chinoiserie I" is a limited edition handmade linocut, inspired by... wait for it... Chinoiserie!
Chinoiserie was a primarily 18.th. century aesthetic trend, inspired by Chinese culture, art and crafts. Think delicate porcelain, exuberant wallpapers, and a somewhat ruthless westernization of a foreign visual language. However problematic the eurocentric appropriation of foreign imagery is today, it nonetheless remains an artistically important and visually fascinating part of our art historical past, which allowed artists to explore organic and decorative imagery featuring exotic birds, flowers, objects and landscapes in new and often daring ways.
"Chinoiserie I" was carved by hand in lino, inked by hand in black Caligo, and handpulled on a etching press on exquisite 300 gsm Somerset Satin paper. As a result each print is an unique and original artwork, signed and numbered by the artist. The paper measures approx. 38 x 38 cm, and the printed area deals 26 x 29 cm.
NB Chinoiserie is now available in TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS. Please make sure to choose the one you want, before check out. One has handpainted eyes (option 1, the new version. As can be seen on the first three pics). One has empty eyes, giving the birds a rather sinister stare (option 2, the original version)
