This beautiful antique compact dates to the 1920s or 1930s. I don't know what the base metal is, but I feel is is tin with a brass wash on top. It's not gold or gold tone, so this is my best guess.
On top it has monograms which look like a cursive L and P to me. A pretty pattern is etched around it. This compact is a bit dirty. I cleaned it up a little which I normally don't do, but you couldn't see the etchings before. Perhaps a jeweler could advise or clean it more.
The back has some pattern too, and the brass wash or protective coating has worn off more, which does deals lay the metal open to....corrosion. The bane of all metal. That said, I don't see corrosion on this compact.
It opens and closes nicely. Inside the mirror is in tact, but has some clouding and dark age spots, which is to be expected for a piece 80 to 90 years old. The mirror is not cracked.
The original puffs are there, and the lipstick melted onto the metal. I don't know how you'd clean that up. Maybe just leave it as is.
This compact measures 3 inches from bottom to top, and the chain is 6.5 inches. The wrist chain looks good. I find no missing or weak links.
This compact is in overall good vintage shape. It's ready for your vanity collection.
