0.5lb Vintage Japanese kimono silk fabric remnant pack - deals red and pink rinzu and chirimen silk solids

This pack of vintage Japanese kimono fabric pieces contains approximately 0.5 pounds of assorted red and pink rinzu and chirimen silk solids.

Rinzu is similar to damask fabric, and refers to a weaving technique in which tone on tone patterns are created by using different thread types on the warp and the weft of the loom. Rather than applying a pattern with dye or surface embellishment, with rinzu the pattern is woven into the actual fabric itself. Often it looks like a solid color fabric at first, but upon closer look you can see that the background is matte with a pattern woven in with deals shinier threads.

Chirimen is a type of silk crepe that has a thick, heavy feel to it. It has a crinkle texture that is created by keeping the weft threads tighter than the warp during the weaving process. The weft is also twisted as it is woven, which helps to create the bumpy texture. Chirimen has a beautiful weight and drape, and is very difficult to wrinkle, making it a very popular choice for kimono and kimono accessories.

Our remnant packs contain larger pieces than our scrap packs, generally ranging from 1/4 yard pieces all the way up to 4+ yards or more, depending on the pack. Keep in mind kimono fabrics tend to be narrow, usually 14" wide.

Each fabric pack is completely unique containing fabric pieces of a wide range of sizes, weights, and fibers and have all been washed and pressed. Keep in mind these are vintage fabrics and some pieces may have some holes or spots.
