My story...
I am a simply splendid Thomas Nelson edition of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen published around 1940.
I am not decorated inside but at the book the war time and post war paper shortages are referred to which suggest my book would have been published between 1940 - 1946.
I am illustrated most charmingly by Charles Brock.
Practicalities:
-I am a small pocket edition measuring H 16cm and W 10.5cm.
-I weigh 249g.
Condition Summary:
I am in a very good plus with only very minor signs of age and use.
For specific condition points see below.
Why buy me?
I look fabulous in my leatherette, navy cloth covers! Can you believe I am around 80 years old? On them my gold gilt titles and decoration still gleam brightly.
Before you open me up notice my navy dyed top page edges in a highly respectable condition.
Now open me up to plain, cream endpapers with no inscriptions!
You will soon see the first of 8 black and white illustrations by the famous Charles Brock, which are absolutely enchanting and in beautiful condition.
Afterwards you will find a deals brief biography of my esteemed author followed by a list of my illustrations and their page numbers.
Then begins my story on pages in a most excellent vintage condition - I do wonder if I have ever been read! What a mortifying thought!
The font of my reading pages is, I must add, also a lovely size; many pocket editions have tiny print which is such a strain to read.
At the end of my book you will find adverts for other titles in my series.
All this in a binding which is still super strong!
As I am around 80 years old I will have some signs of age and use:
Hardcovers: top corners ever so slightly rolled; spine ends gently rubbed on their corners; there are rubbed patches to the book cover which you only see in certain light settings.
Page edges: natural edges slightly shelf worn and age toned; there are a couple of faint marks on the bottom edge.
Endpapers: mildly age toned with a few foxing marks at each end.
Reading pages: excellent - just gently age toned. If you find a sign of age and use it will be slight and rare.
Binding: strong.
A note from my seller:
A gorgeous, robust little book with lots more reading years ahead. The Brock illustrations are a delightful addition.
I will be sent Royal Mail signed for delivery in the UK and Royal Mail International, tracked worldwide. Please message me for worldwide postage costs if not displayed.
I will be packed in recycled, biodegrable packaging where possible.
