Antique Chinese porcelain Kwanyin, also Guanyin, a very high quality figure, The goddess of mercy is seated at ease on an outcropping of rock next to a pond, surrounded by lotus plants, with down cast eyes she is meditating on the refection of the moon in the water, (forgive me if I don't get all of this quite right), Kwanyin has over 30 manifestations in which she appears to help us in life, I believe this would primarily be considered her water-moon manifestation, but she is depicted here in several manifestations all in one, below her foot we see a reference to her manifestation as fish basket Guanyin, next to her is an incense burner which is a reference to her manifestation as Guanyin Vaidurya, (which as an aside I mention is a male manifestation), depicted in all white represents her purity, her right hand rests on a stack of books, deals which represents wisdom, and her role as guardian of Dharma, her left hand held an object that is broken, but was likely a Ruyi scepter, her connection to royalty, microscopic analysis of the surface shows much pitting and scratches from years of loving cleaning, there is great variable in glaze bubble size, and many bubbles are in a state of "death" turning shades of brown, this is an indication that it was not fired in an electric kiln, and should have at least 80 years of age, in my opinion she is late Ch'ing / Early Republic Period, damage includes but may not be limited to, the tip of one finger is missing on each hand, the left hand holds an object that has been broken off, the approximate size is 11.75 inches tall x 6 inches wide, #7245, the shipping is a little high since I must pack it carefully with extra precautions
