Australian Mookaite jasper and sterling silver earrings.

I was lucky to find these Mookaite ochre and burgundy stones at a gem show and couldn't wait to pick out four that would work for earrings. I set them in scalloped and plain bezels and studded them with little sterling silver balls and added a center section with sterling silver flowers. Then I patina'd, brushed and tumbled for shine. They hang from comfortable sterling ear wires and measure 2.25 inches long x 0.50 inches wide.

What is Mookaite?

Mookaite is only found in Mooka Creek in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia. Mooka is an Aboriginal word meaning running water.

Mookaite's spiritual properties are known for balancing health and healing, strengthening vitality and courage, and even is said to have anti-aging properties! It's certainly a protective stone.

Its unusual red, wine, ochre and pink colors echo Australia's landscape and earthy tones.
