Charming rustic stoneware jug, glazed in lovely caramel & dark brown tones.

This handmade stone pitcher is a very unusual & rare shape with a carrying handle on the top & pouring handle at the side. Around the neck there are decorative bulbous rims with a small pouring spout lip on one side. It has a great pour, with no drips.
The jug is glazed outside & inside. The exterior glaze has variations of brown tones from dark deep rich chestnut to light mustard which may have developed over time. Due to its lovely condition, it is difficult to age, but likely before 1950s.
The potter has left his/her mark on the base

This rustic pitcher would have likely been used for the workers lunchtime meals on the farm or at local inn serving cider or water.
Great for the the informal table, inside or al fresco or as a rustic style vase. Lovely colour to add to a shelf display.
