Rare Youngite "Cave Agate" Slab from Hartville Uplift, WY, Nice deals shape, Polished, Fluorescent, Glows green, Jasper, chalcedony & druzy quartz
A good sized slab of youngite with a very artistic shape. It has a nice polish on one side and just a rough polish on the other. Youngite comes from one location only and is no longer mined---in fact, all the Wyoming locations are now closed, and that makes fine grade youngite a collector's item. You can see the brecciated jasper (several different shades of pink, salmon, and brown color) in this slab enclosed in a whitish or grayish blue chalcedony with vugs and botryoidal druzy quartz lining the edges. Pictures #1 through #6 and #10 show the polished face of the slab. Picture #7 through #9 shows its semi-polished side. All the photos were taken under an incandescent light.
"Youngite is an exceptional material from Wyoming. Also known as fluorescent cave agate, it consists of a brecciated (broken) fleshy/peach jasper suspended in a white deals agate (chalcedony) matrix. Filled with botryoidal druzy quartz pockets it makes fantastic cabbing stock. It also is famous for its unique fluorescent qualities when exposed to UV light, glowing with an intense green color. It has been off limits to collectors for many decades and has since become quite rare--- definitely a must for any comprehensive agate collection."
The slab measures 5-3/4" long by 3-1/4" wide by over 1/4" (7mm) deep and weighs 4.2 oz. or 118 grams. Its measurements place it into the cabinet size category. Shipping cost includes $200 insurance coverage.
