Listed above is a rare, vintage offset lithograph by French artist, Jean Axatard. ESPEJO better known as Axatard was born in Marseille, France in deals 1931. He studied art in Marseille and became very popular throughout France and England. His folk style of painting evokes nostalgia and emotion with a definite French heart and soul. His oil paintings have also been reproduced as prints, and his oils command high prices at auction.
The image above shows a typical French village in winter with snow on the ground, and villagers going about their daily lives. The colors are vibrant and the folk art style is engaging. There is a slight indentation on the print in the skyline just above the horizon line about 5 inches in front the left margin (see photos) When examined very closely it is discernible, but otherwise it is not noticeable, and certainly does not detract from the piece. I have intentionally taken magnified photos so you can see the imperfection mentioned. The entire piece with matting is 24 inches high by 18 inches wide; the image is 13 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches high. It is mounted in a single ivory mat. There is some light smudging on the top right corner of the mat, which would be covered by a frame...or could simply and easily be rematted per your desire. This print is in good vintage condition.
