Near 1980 a group of nomads around the Anti-Atlas Mountains were caught in a bad rain storm. The following morning as their journeys continued, they began finding crystals that had washed down the mountain during the storm. They collected them and sold them to tourists. In 2011 a small mining operation started and the stones started being brought to the world by hand tools and hard work. In 2015 excavators were brought in and the supply grew to what we have today.
