Early 20th French Wooden Grocery Measure, Unusual 3 Litre French Grain deals Measure, Bentwood Dry Goods Measure, Great for Medium Sized Utensils

A charming French antique wooden grocery measure sourced in the south of France and dating from the early 20th century.

This piece is unusual as it is entirely made from bentwood (and nails), they are more commonly found with metal bands top and bottom.

This is also an odd size, it is a 3 litre measure, the first one I have ever seen. There is a maker's stamp with 3 fleur de lys, image 3 and some lettering around the top.

These are often called grain measures but were also used for other provisions including salt, hence the smaller sizes one sometimes sees.

The wood has developed different rich tones over the decades and the nails have softly tarnished to give that timeworn appeal.

A wonderful piece of French history to use as a holder for medium sized utensils, a planter or vase to complement your French farmhouse or country decor.

Condition - In good rustic vintage condition with signs of age and use. There are some scratches, marks and scuffs. Old worm holes. A superficial split in the wood at the top.

NB I Have treated this with worm killer and then put it in my deep freezer deals for 5 days.
