A charming full page of "illustrated proverbs and charades" -- puzzles where you're challenged to figure out famous terms deals or sayings using the visual clues (sort of like rebuses). Published in the December 23, 1865 issue of The Illustrated Times, a weekly Victorian-era newspaper published in London. (The date is printed at the top of the print, but is not shown in the photos.)
Size: approx. 9.5 inches x 14.5 inches. The full print is shown in the first photo. Other photos show details from the print. Some light staining and creasing, as shown in photos. Minor tears along the sides, if any, have been repaired with archival mending tissue. Otherwise in good condition. With printing en verso.
Note: The caption tantalizingly says, "The explanation will be given in our next number", but don't worry: the answers will be included with the print!
This is an original print from 1865, not a reproduction! Bananastrudel sells only originals.
