Ships passing by are a majestic sight to behold! I was running on the Welland Canal trail in St. Catharines last November when I took some photos of this ship with one of the locks in the background, which later became reference material for this painting. I had paused in awe of the huge ships that connect our region to the world through through the St. Lawrence Seaway and beyond. The sun coming up in the morning cast a lovely glow on the fall trees, and I aimed to show the gentle motion of the water deals, the wind rushing through the trees, and ship as they went on their journeys. May we not forget the unique heritage we have in our beautiful historic canals.
