Product code: Poplar Memorial Box or Cremation Urn with Sliding deals Lid

In July of 2014 a very good friend of mine passed away. Because of my woodworking skills I was asked by the family to make a box for his ashes. Although it was the most solemn thing ever made in Manland, I was honored to make a box for my friend. After people at church saw that first box I've been asked to make several more boxes for people that have passed away, and I even had one lady pre-order her box (she said there was no rush!). The original request was for a simple box that would actually decompose because they were going to bury the box on the family farm and they wanted it to return to the soil. I did add a cedar cross and three brass nails, so when my friend is gone the cross and three nails will remain.

I am now happy to help others out in their time of grief with a simple box that can hold the remains of their loved one. The box is made from locally harvested poplar. Each box is unique and shows the grain and sometimes blemishes of the wood. It is sanded smooth but left unfinished. If you plan on burying the box and want it to decompose, it can be left unfinished. If you plan to keep the box in your home, or if you simply would prefer a finish, two coats of wood finishing wax can be added for no extra charge. The other reason that I have left it without the finish right now is because if you would like a cedar cross, like the last picture shown (which is from a different box), glued to the lid of the box, it can be added at no additional cost prior to shipping the box.

The outside dimensions of the box are 9"x8"x6" and the inside dimensions are 8"x7"x5". The side walls are 1/2" thick and the lid and bottom are 1/4" thick. This 280 cubic inches of space should be ample room for a grown adult (I have read to figure 1 cubic inch per pound of body weight).

Although this box does have a snug lid, the box does deals not have an air-tight seal. I assume that you will keep the ashes in the plastic bag (from the crematorium) inside of this box.

Each listing is unique and the pictures show the actual box that you will receive. Note that the last picture is included to show the cedar cross and is not the box that you will receive.

I ship via USPS Priority Mail which will get this box anywhere in the US within three business days. If you need your box quicker than that for a funeral, please contact me and I would be happy to calculate express shipping to your location.

To expedite handling, please answer the following questions when you order:
-Do you want a finishing wax on the box?
-Do you want a cedar cross mounted on the lid?
