Sheer Crinkled Silk Chiffon 1930-40's Dress: Cream Bodice & Micro-Pleat Collar, Deep Blue w Cream Polka Dots deals Skirt Sz. XS

Lovely, sheer crinkled silk chiffon dress from the 1930's-40's has a cream bodice with a deep blue with cream polka dot skirt. It features a wide, micro-pleated collar with a ‘V' neckline in front that gives the effect of a ruffle. Sleeveless deals, the armholes and neckline are finished with a rolled edge. At the front shoulders and at center back are tiny pintucks [photo #3, lower right].

The skirt has a yoke that comes to a deep pointed ‘V' points in the front. It is pleated under the yoke for fullness. There are crocheted thread belt loops at the side, but there was no belt with it. In photo #10, lower right, you can see the knot on the backside through the sheer fabric, it is not a flaw.

I would estimate this item to be a size XS, but please go by the measurements below. Keep in mind this slips on over the head, so you must be SMALLER than the measurements given for correct fit.


Measurements are taken lying flat, so please double where applicable:

Bust: 17 ¼”
Waist: 17 ½”
Hips: 19”
Shoulders Across Back: 14”
Total length in front from top of shoulder: 44”
Total length from center back: 45”
Sweep: 49” [x 2]

Weight is 4 ounces, unpackaged

Condition is very good, with the following issues noted: this has been hand-soaked and is ready to wear. There remains a light discoloration under the arms in the front, and within the discolored area on the left side there are three holes, shown in photo #10, lower right . The largest is ¼”, the other two are pinhead-sized. It would be good to patch this to prevent any further damage to this area. One hole under the back collar and a couple small holes on the collar, sort of hidden in the pleats. There are belt loops, but no belt. Add a lightweight belt if you like, or remove the loops.
The seams are all good, but some of them are not finished and there is fraying on the backside that shows through the sheer fabric a bit. Photo #9 shows the backside of the waist seam. I did not do any trimming, but you might want to clean up the seam edges a bit, or encase them in a bias seam binding.
