This Rattle measures 16 inches. Usually Maple is a homogeneous cream color. Ambrosia Beetles enter the wood through small holes and bring with them Ambrosia Fungal spores. These two live symbiotically (both benefit from the relationship). The fungal mycelium grow through the wood, painting it with beautiful colors as seen here. The Beetle lives off the mycelium. I have left some bark on this handle and the opposite side is all unique Ambrosia. A splash of Turquoise inlay, just for fun.
The three gourds all received a colorful alcohol ink treatment to complement the handle and inlay. They are filled with popcorn and topped with a small Cedar dowel.
It's voice is a sweet chorus that is crisp and rich.
(In the photo's there is not tie between two deals of the gourds. This has been placed, I just don't feel like retaking the pictures, chuckle).
