Victorian deals partlet or short cape, antique capelet, fur trim cape collar

A sombre and elegant navy blue and black 'partlet' or visiting cape from the Alsace region of eastern France.

The partlet was a sleeveless garment worn over the neck and shoulders, either worn over a dress when outdoors in public, or worn to fill in a low neckline.

* circa likely early-mid 1800s
* black fur trim at the neck and bodice
* warm winter wool fabric
* black silk 'crape' or crepe plissé trim
* moiré silk panel, silk ribbon trim
* lined with black silk
* fastens with hook at the neck and very decorative jade button fastening at the front hem

MEASURES:

20 1/2" shoulder / 9 1/2" length front neck to hem /10 deals 1/2 " length back

52cm shoulder / 24cm length front to hem / 27cm back length

CONDITION: extremely good condition for its age. Some very minor wear at the edges of the moiré silk panel at the back hem + it shows some ancient minor repairs in the same place (see photo of the back). The fur is very slightly worn at the back neck on the fold. The Interior is in excellent condition
