A 5" high vintage stone bird carving by first generation Inuit artist Allie Awp (Amittu) (1926-1983) of Povirnituq. Nice display size.
The bird is posed roosting with a single egg between its feet. Has all the great detailing to the bird that Allie Awp is noted for, including the large eyes, the beak, the "eyebrows", "nails" on the web feet, the sharp, angular wing shoulders. Water birds were a favoured subject in Allie's art.
Signed "Allie Amittu" and dated 1976. Also deals has carving registration number. 1-47696
