Inspired by frequent trips to local Wilmington, Delaware farmer's markets and farm stands such as Marini's produce and Highland Orchards, this original watercolor on paper captures the striking complementary red and green complementary color scheme of fresh farmhouse beets in rich jewel tones. Layered washes and cross-contour brush strokes capture the surface quality and interest of these beautiful organic gems. This painting reinterprets a bunch of farmer's market beets into concentric swirls of juicy purples, reds, and fuschias, complemented by leafy foliage rendered in squiggles and washes in shades of green.
