This novel was written by popular Gilded Age writer and Pulitzer Prize-winner Ellen Glasgow. The book has red cloth covers with gilt lettering and decoration (front cover, spine, and top edge). The fore edge and bottom edge are handsomely deckled. There deals are no personal markings, and the pages are clean and unmarked.
Pages 66-67 have some shadowing from a piece of paper or card that was at one time placed between them (see photo); otherwise, the pages are only mildly age toned. The corners and edges are bumped/rubbed, and there is a bit of fraying (see photos). There is what appears to be a small puncture in the spine (see photo). Finally, the cloth covers appear mottled due to wear over the past 116 years.

Overall, it's a lovely, readable, and collectible book.
