Pants. Short for "pantaloons". Also known as trousers, slacks, strides, kegs, kex, britches, and/or breeches. Up to that point, about when the 1700's became 1800's, men had ran around, often in wigs, in stockings and knickerbockers. Which was kind of silly and, more to the point, a bit chilly and not so great for riding horses. Huzzah, then, for the creation deals of pants. And this was the style: the "narrow-fall" pant, (the "fall" being the flap), which was the style in which pants closures had looked since 1750.
Not only do these particular trousers evoke a bygone age with more than a bit of swagger, they also are arguably more comfortable, especially for the gentleman who finds his *ahem* frontal area usually squashed in typical pants. Adjusts with a lacing gusset in the back. partially lined around the front flap and gusset.
As seen on Uncle Sam, Willie Wonka and Beethoven....
