OLD LADY SPILL VASE & OLD MAN VESTA MATCHBOX HOLDER

The old lady is carrying a basket over her shoulder with plenty of room for matches - either new or spent. She would spend her days waiting patiently in the Victorian Gentlemen's Smoking Room (very Downton Abbey!) to assist the guests. She is also happy to hold cocktail sticks on the bar top and is certainly a tremendous talking point.

To the front it says 'WOODEN DOLL' which is actually a type of industrial trolley. However there is an old pub near our home called The Wooden Doll and it's possible that this old lady stood on the pub counter offering free matches to the regulars. Or taking their used deals matches when they were done.

Next to her in the photos is a wonderful chap who's ready to hold your matchbox. He is also very obliging as a book rest and together the old couple make a fabulous and useful pair.
