1960 SONY TR-84 Portable 8 Transistor AM Radio, With Leather Case, Works Great, A Sony Collector's Dream!
Wonderful early SONY TR-84 portable radio with 8 transistors, with a creamy white thermoplastic cabinet and brushed aluminum front plate. Easy to tune with big sound, the TR-84 was manufactured in 1959-60 by Sony Corp. in Tokyo, Japan.
Aesthetically the TR-84 isn't my most favorite Sony broadcast radio, but for functionality it's the tops! The tuning dial is very sensitive (hence the term 'Super Sensitivity' etched on the front panel) and thus the dial is super slow to turn when engaged. This allows for the ability to find more AM stations, and fine-tune into channels and frequencies quite well.
Comes with a Sony genuine leather fitted case, and original cowhide carrying handle.
Operates on 3 'C' cell batteries which fit inside the original plastic Sony sleeve (included). An internal sticker attached to the speaker shows a printed serial number of 239256.
Cabinet measures 7½" x 4" x 1¾".
TESTED, WORKING: We popped in 3 'C' cells, and it instantly came to life! Great sound for such an old radio. Local AM stations are easy to find, very little static, nice audio quality, and loud too!. Some squelching when adjusting the volume.
CONDITION (radio): A fantastic specimen; we challenge deals you to find a finer example. it's a collector's dream! In great shape with no chips or cracks, no scuffs or rubbing to the plastic cabinet. Inside is immaculate. The leather case has some scuffs but the stitching is still holding strong.
