These vintage menko cards of Hall of Famer Tetsuharu Kawakami of the Yomiuri Giants are true gems for any baseball fan or collector. Kawakami was a professional player for 18 years, winning the batting title 5 times, 2 home run crowns, 3 RBI titles, & had 6 titles for the most hits in a season. He was the first player in Japanese pro baseball to achieve 2,000 hits & was named the league's MVP three times. As manager of the Yomiuri Giants from 1961-74, he led the Giants to 9 consecutive championships. He was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1965 & is considered one of the best ever to deals play in Japan. The first menko card, part of the JDM 4: 1949 Kagome Diecut Menko set, has a unique die-cut shape and is a great example of early Japanese menko cards. It measures approximately 1.25 inches by 2.5 inches tall. The second menko card is from the JCM 33a: 1958 Yamakatsu Upper Left Glove set and is about 2 inches by 3 inches tall.
