This is the real deal! Unlike the many reproduction metal advertising signs and trays with faux wear, this is an authentic and rare piece that was produced for Cinzano in the early 1960s by Pelliconi in Bologna, Italy.

Today, Pelliconi is a world leader in producing metal and plastic closures for the food and beverage industry (such as ring-pull caps). However, in the early 1960s, the company also had an "assorted jobs" department that produced other metal products, including this type of advertising tray, and perhaps most famously, the containers for "Pasticca del Re Sole licorice".

This delightful Cinzano tray shows the signs of being used and enjoyed. It also bears the scars of life in a bar followed by the forgotten years of languishing in a box in a garage or shed.

The front surface shows some scratches and pitting of the enamel as well as small rust spots, while on the reverse, the gold-toned coating has been substantially worn away, revealing the base metal, which has darkened over time. However, it is totally sound, with no dents, dings or holes.
