Beautiful Vintage French Art Print, Horace Vernet, Early 1800s Fashion, Pretty Lady in Pink deals Striped Empire Dress & Gold Tiara, 1955
Such a beautiful vintage French art print of a pretty young woman in early 1800s fashions – a wonderful pink striped empire dress with slate blue fur trimmed coat, and best of all, a gold tiara with red jewels. Appears to be a costume ball situation! This striking image is by French artist Horace Vernet who lived during this time period. The print appears to have been done in 1955, due to the pencil markings across the top, reproducing an earlier image in some way. An imprint at the lower right corner is James Layng Mills, perhaps the issuing gallery.
The writing across the top, as well as penciled roman numerals at the lower right corner, make me think this could be a limited edition numbered situation. However, there are some specks which appear to be printing imperfections, so I'm not sure of the methods used. By design, the image is closer to the top edge than the bottom edge, and the pencil notations are very close to the top edge, something to take into account when considering framing. Also, top edge is crooked. I think this would be amazing as is, just leaned against something. Ink, with pencil notations, on a flexible weight art board. Unframed. About 12 7/8” tall by 9.75” wide.
CONDITION:
Some normal handling wear, minor creasing, normal age toning and deals normal vintage soiling, some minor edge wear and corner wear, etc.
•Background is more of a cream color, but there is some age toning, and seems more noticeable around edges. Materials must not have been acid-free.
•TOP IS TRIMMED CROOKEDLY.
•Some TINY SPECKS here and there, they seem like printing imperfections.
•More noticeable small marks above her head and near right edge.
