Original antique copy from August 1918. Buffalo Bill Weekly , Devoted to Far West Life - Published by Street & Smith - Price 6c
This was a weekly "pulp" magazine (a pre-cursor to the mid century comic book ) focused on the glory of the Old West, particularly starring :Buffalo Bill. The Buffalo Bill Stories, published by the New York firm Street and Smith from 1906 to 1910, (and thereafter "NEW" Buffalo Bill Weekly) capitalized on the American boys' fascination with western adventure stories. Many issues focused on historical incidents in the life of the Colonel William Cody, who gained fame as an army scout and buffalo hunter before becoming the star of his own Wild West Show. Claiming greater authenticity than other dime novel westerns, some issues of The Buffalo Bill Stories contained the following publisher's note: Beware of Wild West imitations of the Buffalo Bill Stories. They are about fictitious characters. The Buffalo Bill weekly is the only weekly containing the adventures of Buffalo Bill, (Col. W.F. Cody), who is known all over the world as the king of scouts.
The condition is VERY fragile, as the paper quality was an inexpensive grade which tended to "tan" and also become brittle from age. Happily, this copy's covers are of semi-glossy paper allowing the "art work" to survive nicely despite edge chipping. Nice coloration, suitable for framing. The 32 interior pages , though clean and unmarked with names or writings, have suffered edge wear and tanning. All story text and ads unaffected.
