Product code: Mid 19th Century Skaters deals Steel Engraving, Framed
The artist of this scene was William Kaulbach, a German painter. Kaulbach was associated with the Dusseldorf school of painting and was mainly a muralist, but also a book illustrator. The steel engraving was done by Dr. Joseph Guttman, who came to the United States via Europe and founded the Steelograph engraving company in the 1920s. The company did deals steel engraving where the design was cut into a hard steel plate, offering sharp impressions even for large editions. The detail of the skaters, the swirling edges on the ice, and the wintery background is prominent throughout. The frame is a beautiful black wood with raised detail and an ivory colored mat around the print. The glass is non-glare and sealed in the back. It is ready to hang alone or would fit in nicely on a studio wall with assorted pictures and black frames. This was professionally framed. It is 11"W x 13" H. Condition of print is consistent with age and use. THIS IS ONE OF A PAIR FOR SALE.
