Rare ShakerAntique Tin Star Scoop With Pierce Star/Shaker Made/Antique Decorated Tin Scoop/Americana/Folk Art/19th Century Tin Scoop With Handle/Early American
This is an outstanding and rare antique tin scoop with a pierced star decoration. It is hand punched as seen in photos #4 & 9. You can see where the maker scribed the circle so he or she could then follow that line as they made the punched out star. The handle is well suited and feels good in your hand. There is a circular hook to hang it on the wall. It deals is from the 19th century. After reviewing Shaker Auctions that have had catalogs providing photographs, I believe this to be a Shaker Scoop. You can see a hanging scoop very similar to this one. One particular auction was the McCue Shaker Collection at Hancock Shaker Village which took place on September 8, 2012. There is also a book titled Shaker Smalls written by David Serette. In this book there is a scoop showing the same quality and craftsmanship that makes this a Shaker piece. I have been an antique dealer for 40 years and I have never seen any scoop that comes close in decor and construction. It truly is a beauty and a fine piece of American Tin. Found in the historical Cooperstown area of upstate NY.
