Another example of an excellent antique French chain - this time a pocket watch chain that is gold plated metal. The links are a nice size and feature an ornate pattern in the book chain style. All original links are intact as are the original clasps. The dog clasp works well, the spring ring clasp is a bit stiff but closes well and securely. The links are hollow formed and this makes the chain nicely lightweight, but also substantial in its design.

The chain features a very pretty shield shaped fob that is decorated with delicate engraved patterns and encrusted with tiny half pearls (looking through the loupe these pearls have a distinctly aged off white colour). It's hard to tell if they are genuine pearls, they are so small but they have aged in a way that is consistent with pearls and not glass. I can't guarantee either. Still, very pretty and all intact.

A great chain for the collector, costume fan or assemblage designer.
