Antique Copper Flash Point Oil Tester N.Y State Board of Health Eimer & Amend In its annual report submitted to the governor in early 1903, the New York State Board of Health mentioned the many accidents caused by oil lamps and oil cans, and called for “a more general test of illuminating oils." This instrument, designed for determining the flash point of illuminating oils, might have been used for that purpose. The inscription on the metal tag reads “OIL TESTER / N.Y. STATE / deals BOARD OF HEALTH / EIMER & AMEND /NEW YORK." It seems like this is the main body of the apparatus; when whole it would have a top piece and a small part to go inside the triangular opening. CONDITION Bottom rim is bent inwards at one point making it a less than perfect circle. Surface scratching, patina which is heavier in some places than others. Spot on the bottom of the rim could be something other than natural patina (paint,etc). Looks like there were a couple stickers peeled off on the backside.
