deals This is an exceptional mixed metals Mexican Aztec pendant. The pendant was artisan crafted for the American tourist market sometime between 1955-1970. The look is exotic, beautiful and is quintessential mid century Mexican.

It is also quite large with the design incorporating three separate segments, each segment highlighting the elaborate metal work and carved polished stones. It makes a powerful statement.
The magnificent focal point however is the Jade face. The face has been carved in a traditional manner and depicts an Aztec warrior. These traditional Aztec Mexican faces often seem sad...possibly because the Spanish conquistadors destroyed their civilization.

That said...
The artisan who crafted this pendant was very talented. The necklace is highly detailed with an interesting dimensionality. The construction is quality. Please note the finished back and rich oxidation. Lovely work...

About Casa De Luna:
After an extensive internet search and some blog questions, no verifiable information about this plateria could be found.
Two facts however are evident:
A. Casa De Luna pieces are more popular than other mixed metal jewelry designs including Herbert Harmon(!).
B. The pieces produced by Casa De Luna are remarkably similar to those made by Casa De Maya.

About the Aztecs:
The Spanish campaign against the Aztec Empire had its final victory on August 13, 1521, when a coalition army of Spanish forces and native Tlaxcalan warriors led by Cortés and Xicotencatl the Younger captured the emperor Cuauhtemoc and Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire.
