There are two “sensors” that determine the lid is closed, and those seem to need an adjustment which I don't know how to do. So, in order to read discs as is, you need to press down on the lid yourself and then put something on top like I've shown in the photo. If you hear the disc whirring loudly inside, you're pressing too hard. You'll know you're doing it correctly once you see the “Reading disc” text. Sold as is no returns.
