I appreciate Navajo symbolism since my father would talk about their meanings and importance within Navajo culture. I remember him teaching me that I held a very special place for him because I was his first deals born and female. With the memory of his words I created this barrette. I used the guardian, female, corn, and feather symbols. The white flowered corn is man and the yellow flowered corn is woman. The guardian surrounds the corn and Navajo woman. Delica beads were used for this barrette.
He said that Navajo symbols were powerful and people had to know how to use them. That what we in the general public see in rugs, pottery, and sand paintings are not shown in their real graphic design or colors.
