Product code: 18 Round - 18th Century deals British "Belly Box" Cartridge Box

deals Based upon the extant example at the Canadian War Museum, this 18 round British "Belly Box", or rather waist mounted belly box is an exact reproduction down to the smallest detail of the surviving examples across Canada, Britain and the United States. Whereas manly historically incorrect "belly boxes" mount across the back of the block, this item is mounted across the front, with side straps to secure the box and prevent is from flipping over, as ordered by General Howe. Should it be requested, the cartridge box can also be produced without the side mounted straps.

This item includes period details such as a correct "button", bevelled edges, proper strap placement and a proper hole depth and style matching that of the originals and permitting the use of live ball, where so desired. This item is also available with, or without the GR3 cypher, with a potential GR2 cypher being available upon inquiry. Please note that the gold cypher IS NOT perfect and will always be as such, according wit the results found with the originals; these cyphers are unevenly gilded and the gold can potentially come off, or fade (please see the original image from the Canadian War Museum, within this listing). The wood for this block has been hand shaped and finished with a black linseed oil paint, as well as a wax coating which has been buffed, to provide the item with as close an appearance as possible to the remaining originals and making use of nothing but period materials and finishes.

This specific belly box is appropriate for both the American Revolution, as well as the 7 Years War / French and Indian War, as well as various other portrayals. The item also served as being a good candidate for conversion to a side mounted box, with side mounted shoulder straps being available upon inquiry. Unlike the other cartridge boxes on the market, this one has no modern compromises, for better or for worse; the side straps and the front straps can potentially come off, as there is no guarantee that this will not happen at some point, all originals seem to have this same issue and repair is possible with little work. Please also note that this item DOES NOT INCLUDE A BELT by default, though you CAN select the appropriate belt for purchase within this shop, at this link: https://www.etsy.com/ca/tccunha/listing/730686341.

All items are sold as is and are produced on a per order basis; each work is a custom piece and reproduced (where applicable) by hand and using period materials as close as possible to the original materials used in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. All items may be subject to a delay and currently each item will require four to five weeks to produce and ship from our workshop, unless otherwise noted.
