This original hand-painted silk scarf, 'Dramatic Monarch' is a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable silk art. Two Monarch butterflies dominate each scarf end, with the faint image of flowers on a light green background.
Each silk scarf is individually hand painted on 100 percent silk using non-toxic water based dyes and paints, with no two designs being exactly the same.

Technique: The particular silk painting technique I use is called the Serti Technique where designs are formed using a water-based gutta resist which acts as a barrier and holds the color within the outlined areas. Non-toxic dyes are selected and carefully mixed prior to being hand painted. A combination of Serti and supplementary techniques allows me to have a distinctive form, yet also be creative with textures and colour blending. The process of heat setting or steaming the painted designs produces brilliant colours and permits the silk fabric to be colour-fast and washable. It also removes the resist, leaving a soft hand and beautiful drape.

Colors you see on your screen may vary slightly from the actual colors as each camera and computer monitor reproduces colour differently. Different dyes and variations in silk weave and weight will also create different effects on the silk. Please remember this is a one-of-a-kind hand painted item, so variations will occur in the design. It's all part of the creative process and that is what makes each piece unique.
