Professional 14" x 17" giclée on museum-quality watercolor paper. Colored pencil Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapilla) surrounded by Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) and Black Mangrove (Avicennia germinans) saplings. NOTE: copyright in digital image does NOT appear on physical print.

The Ovenbird is a ground-dwelling member of the warbler species that breeds across eastern North American and winters in Florida, the Caribbean, and Central America. I chose to draw this secretive species given their abundance near my Florida home during the fall, winter, and spring. Unlike their arboreal kin, Ovenbirds are one of the few warblers to spend most of their time deals on the ground. They can be seen slowly walking through the leaf litter on the forest floor while characteristically cocking their tail. Ovenbirds are vociferous on the breeding grounds where they are more often heard than seen. More information on this species is available here: https://ebird.org/species/ovenbi1/
