Softcover
Chapple Publishing Company, Ltd.
Volume I - 436 pages, including index
Volume II - 444 pages, including index
There are black and white pictures/illustrations throughout both volumes.

Through a contest held by, "National Magazine" in 1904 - 1905, people submitted stories or poetry that were, "heart throbs".

A quote from the owner of the publishing company, ". . .it [the contribution] had appealed with unusual force to the affections, hopes, experience, fancy, judgement or interests of the sender, and become dear to the heart; in short, a veritable, "heart throb" of the contributor."

The books are in very good condition. Especially when you consider their age.

Volume I - There is light wear on the front and back covers. A bit more wear where the spine meets the covers and the book bends. The glue is loosening between the cover page and the first illustrated page in the front and between the last two pages in the back.
There is a page number written in pencil on the cover page.
A few pages have some creases and others have a bit of staining. Please see picture #4 for an example.
A newspaper clipping was tucked between pages 242 and 243 and left an imprint.

Volume II - The same wear pattern is present on the covers. The pages are beginning to pull away from the spine between the first illustrated page and the title page.
There are a couple places in the book where the connection to the binding is more easily seen. Please see picture #8 for an example.
Again, a few of the pages have creases and others have a bit of staining. Please see picture #9 for an example.
