And now for something entirely different: Introducing my handmade MORPHOLOGIE fossil art jewelry line now on Etsy.

MORPHOLOGIE combines two of my passions, silversmithing and fossil collecting. I'm blessed to live along the coast in an area of South Carolina where fossils are amazingly abundant.

Where's the fossil, you might ask? Well, look closely at the unusual center stone, it's actually fossilized shark poop! We affectionately call these Poowelry and each piece is truly one-of-a kind.

This sterling silver pendant features a locally collected coprolite (shark poop) that's been hand-cut and polished into a cabochon. The oval stone is bezel set in the center of a stamped ring of stars on a frosted sterling backplate. The round bail opening is nice and wide and will accommodate a larger chain if desired.

The pendant measures 35.5 mm (1.4 inch) from the top of the bail by 22 mm (.87 inch) deals wide by 7.4 mm (.29 inch) thick/tall.

The cab colors feature light and dark tan and brown inclusions, basically what amounted to this shark's very last meal. It takes very special conditions for organic material such as this to fossilize into solid rock. Most shark coprolites found in this area are plain brown or black on the outside. It's only when you cut into the stone, that the beautiful colors and patterns are revealed. It's millions of years old. And yes, turns out you can polish a turd after all.

No one need know you're wearing shark poop, unless you tell them. But it's also a great conversation starter wrapped up in one unique piece of jewelry, so why not?
